In my spiritual journey, I have come across many different ideologies. Some people say it’s religion, for other’s its spirituality
In my opinion, you can’t be religious without being spiritual. But you can be spiritual without being religious. What I am going to help you understand today is what it really means to embrace your spirituality in the only way that matters.
Spirituality is a Higher Power of your own understanding.
I always worshipped the Universe more than anything else. In recovery, they’ll say a Higher Power of your own understanding. So whether that be God, the Universe, Buddha, etc.
I always had an understanding of the Universe before I even had an understanding of spirituality. So I will share with you a story about how I used to watch Supernatural during difficult times and it’s something I like to do to this day.
It helps me remember that there is more to life than what meets the eye.
Ask and You Shall Receive…right?
One night in the middle of the night after I started the book Super Attractor I was up with my daughter. She was a baby and as babies do, they keep moms up all night. As I do, I put on an episode of Supernatural, and it was all about Dean being the archangel Michael. And in the book, Gabby asks you to talk to your angels, guardian angels, spirit guides, and archangels.
When she asked that question in the audiobook, I said, Michael is my archangel, I knew it immediately. And that night I saw the episode of Supernatural with Dean being Michael’s perfect vessel. I knew it was a sign that I was being taken care of immediately. Which is the gift of spirituality that keeps on giving.
The next episode I saw was episode 13 of Season 13 which is Saint Anthony’s number. My clear and favorite Guardian Angel. Another nudge for me to know without a doubt that it was not a fluke that all of this was happening at the same time.
True Spirituality is Surrendering.
My point to the story is that especially when times are tough is when you have to lean on your spirituality more than anything else. It is surrendering to your Higher Power of your own understanding and saying, ‘I know you know better than me, please help me’.
I have always asked the universe to send me signs and in fact, both my husband and I have the number 13 tattooed on us. We got married on the 13th, and I will publish this on the 13th. Friday the 13th in fact.
Saint Anthony, the Saint of miracles and lost things, his number is 13. And even as a kid, I would pray to Saint Anthony to show me when I was on the right path. Then I would ask the Universe to show me 12 if I wasn’t. Little did I know at the time that 12 was the Archangel Michael’s number, Michael the protector. You don’t have to have spirituality to see that synchronicity.
You know nothing…
That’s a reference to my favorite, The Game of Thrones (the book series, not the television series, you’re on a blog aren’t you?). But seriously, you know nothing. What are you going to do tomorrow? Guess what…you don’t know until you get there!
But it’s often in those times of struggle that you want to try to control everything. And that’s how you repel what it is that you really want. Or what it is that you didn’t know you wanted until you had it. I didn’t know that I was going to love blogging, I didn’t know it was an option when I was stuck in my negativity.
So the top spirituality secret is to surrender.
The universe knows better than you.
